This past weekend, the North Carolina Tar Heels embarked on a crucial road trip to Wilmington, facing off against UNCW in a highly anticipated rematch. Having split victories in their previous encounters, the stakes were high for both teams.

In Friday’s game, both teams came out with intensity, playing fast and hard from the start. However, it was the Tar Heels who broke through first, scoring an early goal followed swiftly by a powerplay goal to establish a 2-0 lead. The Tar Heels continued to dominate the game, controlling the puck and stifling UNCW’s offensive efforts. In the third period, the Tar Heels extended their lead to 3-0, and with solid defense they maintained this lead, culminating in a well-earned 3-0 victory.

Back-and-Forth Battle Ends in Tar Heels’ Favor – January 20th.

Saturday’s game saw a more evenly matched contest, with both teams demonstrating strong play. The Tar Heels once again took the first lead of the game, but UNCW responded with a powerplay goal to tie it up. The intensity ramped up as the game went on, but the Tar Heels did not falter as they scored again to make it 2-1. UNCW wasn’t going to give up and managed to find the back of the net, to bring the score back to even. The Tar Heels bounced back yet again with a powerplay goal to retake the lead for a third time. Throughout the third period the Tar Heels showed remarkable resilience, adding two more goals to secure a 5-2 win and extending their winning streak a remarkable eight games.

These back-to-back wins against UNCW are a testament to the Tar Heels team’s determination, skill, and ability to adapt under pressure. The team has shown continuous growth and consistent performance make them a formidable force as we progress through the season.
