UNC Hockey Experience
In joining UNC hockey, you will be part of an elite group of student-athletes in one of the nation’s premier educational institutions. The UNC hockey team has seen tremendous success over its long history. Most recently, the Tar Heels were the ACCHL Premier South Division Champions, ACHA Southeast Regional Finalists and won the Governor’s Cup beating in-state rivals NC State University.
Our players annually compete on big stages such as PNC Arena, home to the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL), where our fan attendance has consecutively been in the thousands. In addition, the Tar Heels competed in the Frozen Finley outdoor game in 2023 where the players got a chance to play in front of 24,000 fans!
Our program is one of the most historic in the country and since UNC is one of the best institutions in the country, our players can tap into an expansive and extremely successful alumni network. Due to the vast amount of programs UNC offers, we have alums in various industries such as, investment banking, consulting, law, healthcare/biotech, who are working at companies such as Bank of America, Deloitte, Intel, Genentech and Amazon.

About Chapel Hill
Calling itself ``the southern part of Heaven,`` the town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina is home to the grassy malls and brick walkways of the University of North Carolina's historic campus. The presence of the country's first public university has allowed a vibrant arts and culture scene to grow in Chapel Hill. Check out a concert by a local band, watch the star's fly at the Morehead Planetarium or catch a varsity game pitting the wildly popular Tarheels against their historic Southern rivals – Duke and NC State!
UNC Chapel Hill Admissions
All students, regardless of their residency and/or citizenship, apply to UNC using The Common Application or The Coalition Application. The application will ask you for more information, including your personal biographical information, parent and sibling information, educational history, and extracurricular activities. There are also three writing samples: one essay and two short answer responses.
Be sure to refer to our deadlines. For all students, and especially for students abroad, it is important to get an early start on the application process and to meet required application and material deadlines.
You must also submit the $85 application fee along with application and required materials. The application accepts online payments with credit cards and electronic checks.
About the ACCHL
The Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League is committed to providing a quality hockey environment, as part of a student’s overall educational experience. To ensure this the ACCHL will govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable, and sportsmanlike manner. Further, through our 30 member Universities, we will integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount.
