Booster Club

Mission of the Booster club

The North Carolina Ice Hockey Booster Club is a non-profit corporation that is organized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Booster Club is led by a Board of Directors whose main objective is to assist in securing funding to help the UNC Ice Hockey Team compete at the intercollegiate level.

Greg Morey
President

Greg Morey is a results-driven executive with a proven track record of driving revenue with exceptional audience experiences.

Morey most recently served as CEO and Co-Founder of City News Beat where he successfully led video, revenue  and audience growth across Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV for 13 local News brands, which included live streaming UNC Hockey playoff games. Prior to returning to Chapel Hill with his family, Morey held management roles at The E. W. Scripps Company in Cincinnati, Tribune Broadcasting in Chicago, and Gannett Broadcasting in Tampa.

Greg and his wife Tammy, a Chapel Hill native, met on Franklin Street before marrying campus adjacent at The United Methodist Church and have the distinction of being the first wedding at The Siena Hotel some 35 years ago.

Born in Brantford, Ontario Canada, Morey is an avid Hockey player, whom you will find skating in the 40+ league at The Sportsplex, as the proud Captain of the “BLUE” team and at the occasional pick-up game around Raleigh with good friends and raving hockey fans.

Colin Wahl
EVP & Treasurer, Booster Club | General Manager, UNC Ice Hockey

Colin is a retired financial and marketing executive who has worked in the corporate world with KPMG, Procter & Gamble and as an entrepreneur launching and selling several businesses over the years. He was also a lecturer in the MBA program at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and is author of “Wired to your Market.” 

Colin grew up playing hockey through High School in Toronto and still enjoys the game. In addition to his administrative duties with the Booster Club, he is the team’s General Manager helping to manage the finances, fundraising, newsletter, website, scheduling, travel, broadcasts and other needs as they arise.

Colin is a graduate of the U of Toronto and U of Michigan – Ann Arbor. He lives in the Chapel Hill area with his wife Kerri. They have four adult children and three grandchildren.

John Johnson
Secretary

John is a seasoned regulatory attorney with a broad financial services background. He currently serves as Associate General Counsel for a leading investment firm. He learned to play ice hockey as an adult and there was simply no going back to a life without hockey. He currently plays in an adult hockey league in Hillsborough.
