Mission of the Booster club
The North Carolina Ice Hockey Booster Club is a non-profit corporation that is organized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Booster Club is led by a Board of Directors whose main objective is to assist in securing funding to help the UNC Ice Hockey Team compete at the intercollegiate level.

Colin Wahl.
President & Treasurer, Booster Club | General Manager, UNC Hockey
Colin is a retired financial and marketing executive who has worked in the corporate world with KPMG, Procter & Gamble and as an entrepreneur launching and selling several businesses over the years. He was also a lecturer in the MBA program at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and is author of “Wired to your Market.”
Colin grew up playing hockey through High School in Toronto and still enjoys the game. In addition to his administrative duties with the Booster Club, he is the team’s General Manager helping to manage the finances, fundraising, newsletter, website, scheduling, travel, broadcasts and other needs as they arise.
Colin is a graduate of the U of Toronto and U of Michigan – Ann Arbor. He lives in the Chapel Hill area with his wife Kerri. They have four adult children and three grandchildren.
Rich Gurlitz
Vice President
Rich is the Founder, Gurlitz Architectural Group, Established in 1988. His firm has served 100’s of clients in the Chapel Hill, RTP and surrounding area. The company has also worked with the Chapel Hill Town Council on numerous development projects. The company also has deep experience with complex federal, institutional and commercial projects working with an array of delivery systems: standard design/bid/build, design/build, and projects as the developer Gurlitz Architectural has also created sustainable buildings and delivered numerous LEED certified projects
Rich has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from The Johns Hopkins University and holds a Masters of Architecture (M. Arch.) from The University of Wisconsin. He plays adult hockey in Hillsborough and his son Ben played on the UNC Hockey team while attending Law School. Rich lives in Chapel Hill with his wife Carey.
John Johnson
Board Advisor
John is a seasoned regulatory attorney with a broad financial services background. He currently serves as Associate General Counsel for a leading investment firm. He learned to play ice hockey as an adult and there was simply no going back to a life without hockey. He currently plays in an adult hockey league in Hillsborough.

Alfred Leach is President of Leach Advisors LLC, a branding, communications + fundraising consultancy with operations in New York City and Raleigh. As a trusted advisor to Boards and C-suite leadership teams, Alfred has led transformation initiatives at Deloitte, The New York Times and Dun & Bradstreet Corporation. A resident of Chapel Hill, NC, he is active in local community non-profits and efforts related to affordable housing, food insecurity, and education.
