Rams vs Seahawks – Double header
On Friday, October 13th, the North Carolina Tar Heels played host to UNC Wilmington in a matchup that held the promise of thrilling hockey action. The Tar Heels with a perfect season thus far, looked to continue their 5-game win streak.
However, the game’s beginning was anything but expected. The Tar Heels, usually a force to be reckoned with, came out surprisingly flat. Their usual sharpness and coordination seemed missing, allowing UNCW to capitalize on their hesitations. By the end of the first period, UNCW had managed to build a stunning 3-0 lead, leaving the home fans in a state of shock.
Determined to turn things around, the Tar Heels entered the second period with a renewed sense of purpose. They managed to find the back of the net early in the period, igniting hopes of a comeback. But every time the Tar Heels looked to build momentum, UNCW responded with bounce-back goals, taking any hopes of a Tar Heel resurgence. Despite the Tar Heels’ best efforts, they trailed 4-1 going into the third period.
In the final period, the Tar Heels continued to battle, showcasing their heart and determination. They managed to net three more goals, but UNCW matched them stride for stride, ensuring they maintained their lead. When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 7-4 in favor of UNCW.

Game 2 –
On Saturday, October 14th, the North Carolina Tar Heels once again faced off against UNCW, eager to settle the score from the previous day’s setback. With a commendable 5-1 record heading into this game, the Tar Heels were determined to showcase their true capabilities and bring their A-game to the ice.
From the initial puck drop, it was evident that this was a rejuvenated Tar Heels team. They took command early on, controlling the pace of play and frequently putting UNCW on the defensive. Their crisp passes, coordinated attacks, and solid defense displayed their true potential. Despite their dominance and multiple scoring opportunities, the first period ended in a stalemate with neither team able to find the back of the net.
As the second period began, the Tar Heels’ opening the scoring, capitalizing on a penalty shot. The goal seemed to energize the team even further, and it wasn’t long before they added another to their tally, ending the second period with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
UNCW, not to be underestimated, attempted a comeback in the third period and managed to slot in two goals of their own. However, the Tar Heels managed to always stay ahead and scored three of their own goals, sealing a well-deserved 5-2 victory. The win was not just a testament to the Tar Heels’ skill and resilience but also their ability to learn and adapt from previous encounters. They approached the rematch with a clear strategy, emphasizing puck possession and tight defense, and it paid off.
