Peedee the pirate walks the plank in 9-1 Win over ecu!

On Saturday September 30th, the North Carolina Tar Heels hosted East Carolina in the Tar Heels 4th game of the season. With a perfect record, the Tar Heels looked to continue their momentum and add another tally to the win column. Understanding the importance of every game, the Tar Heels were sure not to underestimate their opponent and emphasized sticking to their gameplan.

The game started with scoring opportunities for both teams, but strong goaltending kept the score even until late in the first period, when the Tar Heels capitalized on a fast break opportunity, making it 1-0. This was short lived as ECU scored the following shift to tie up the game. Sticking to their game plan, and not letting this goal discourage the Tar Heels, they came back with a last-minute goal to regain their lead 2-1 heading into the intermission.

Following the break, the Tar Heels came out with a newfound spark and started to take over the game. With a strong forecheck and dominating pace of play in the neutral zone, ECU couldn’t keep up. Shift after shift the Tar Heels brought the pressure and threatened to score. By the end of the period the goals were flooding in and in a blink of an eye it was 6-1, heading into the 3rd period.

With a comfortable lead the Tar Heels continued to play the right way and didn’t let ECU back into the game by shutting down all their scoring chances with a strong neutral zone setup. This frustrated their opposition, and the Tar Heels found themselves on multiple power plays including a 5-3, which they capitalized on. The Tar Heels continued to put pucks in the net and took care of business, with a final score of 9-1. This improves their record to 4-0, and the great start to the season continues. With 7 of the Unc players scoring the first goal of their college career, the future of Unc hockey looks promising. Congratulations to Chandler Kotseos, Nick Curley, Carson Rein, Matt Grady, Patrik Peltola, Nick Aney, and Cam Glonek for scoring the first goal of their college career.
