UNC Hockey Announces Exhibition Game Against Carolina Hurricanes Alumni
Chapel Hill, N.C. – On August 16, 2024, the University of North Carolina hockey team will
face members of the Carolina Hurricanes Alumni Association in an exhibition match as the
Tar Heels prepare to make the jump to compete in the American Collegiate Hockey
Association Division I in 2025. The match-up will take place at 6:45 p.m. at the Wake
Competition Center in Morrisville, North Carolina.
Carolina Hurricanes alumni and Stanley Cup champions Aaron Ward, Shane Willis, Chad
LaRose, Cam Ward, Bates Battaglia and others will take the ice against current UNC
hockey players in this rare event. The exhibition aims to celebrate the rich hockey
heritage of both organizations and foster a deeper connection with the local community.
“Any opportunity to increase engagement and excitement around hockey in North Carolina
is an opportunity worth pursuing,” UNC hockey head coach Adam Dauda said. “I am
extremely excited to see this vision come to life. My goal is to provide our players with a
positive and memorable UNC Hockey experience. Beyond that, I want our team to connect
with the community and contribute to the growth of hockey. We feel very grateful to have so
much support and I can’t wait to see UNC and Hurricanes fans come together to enjoy the
game!”
