Tar Heels Seek Win in ‘Revenge Game’ Against IcePack

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Tar Heel Hockey looks to close out its rivalry week with a win against NC State’s IcePack on their ice and extend the winning streak to six games.

When: Friday, Oct. 11

Where: Wake Competition Center, Morrisville N.C.

Puck Drop: 8:15 P.M.

The Tar Heels enter this game following a string of meaningful community initiatives, including a collaborative donation drive with NC State and Appalachian State for Hurricane Helene relief. They also hosted the second annual ‘Pink The Rink’ exhibition game against Duke Ice Hockey, which drew a sellout crowd and raised funds for breast cancer education and awareness. If you missed the game, you can still contribute by donating to the cause.

Now, the focus shifts back to the ice as the Tar Heels prepare to take on the IcePack, led by Head Coach Tim Healy and Captain Zach Herman. The last meeting between these rivals was on Feb. 5 during the ‘Carolina Classic’ at the Lenovo Center (formerly PNC Arena), where the Heels fell 6-2 to the IcePack.

NC State will enter tonight’s game riding the momentum of a seven-game winning streak, which the Tar Heels are determined to snap.

Tommy Gilligan on the team going into tonight’s game:

“We’ve got some good mojo going on. People are really starting to find their game. I think we want to play a full 60. We’ve played some good seconds of games in the winning streak but against State, it’s a whole different animal.”

For UNC to come out on top, they’ll need to stick to a disciplined, defense-first game plan to stifle NC State’s high-powered offense which features scoring depth across all lines. The Tar Heels will also look to their ‘Holman Family Dental Care Player of the Week,’ Daniel Kauber, who has notched three goals and an assist in recent games.

It’s shaping up to be a battle of high intensity and emotion with the Tar Heels eager to avenge their last loss and solidify their streak. Game coverage will be available on ESPN+ with UNC providing live updates on its social media.
