Heels Sweep Northeast Roadie!

Last year, the Tar Heel hockey team had a record-breaking season, and this year, they are just getting started.

A week ago, the boys showed they mean business by dominating two different ACC opponents just over 24 hours apart. Taking down Delaware on September 15th, UNC brought home an 8-1 win! Standout sophomore Patrick O’Shaughnessy racked up four goals, senior Cole Kosowski accounted for six assists, and Tommy Gilligan wore the postgame horns as the game’s MVP.

But the Heels weren’t done.

The next day, they earned a 4-2 victory over Rowan University in New Jersey. O’Shaughnessy had five goals over the two games, including four against Delaware. O’Shaughnessy said the team “showed what [they] are capable of.” The Tar Heel penalty kill went 6-for-6 against the Profs and freshman Daniel Kauber was the first star.

Kosowski won the ACC Hockey League Player of the Week award with a total of seven assists and was the team’s first star of the weekend, O’Shaughnessy’s five goals and one assist were good enough for second star, and senior goaltender Joel Hughes’ 44 saves on 47 shots (93.6%) earned him the third star of the weekend.
