CHAPEL HILL, N.C – Coming off a comeback win against their rivals, NC State’s IcePack, the Tar Heels now have a chance to extend their winning streak to seven games as they face Bowling Green State University.

When: Friday, Oct. 18

Where: Orange County Sportsplex

Puck Drop: 10:30 P.M.

Fans are in for another exciting “Heels After Dark” game at the OCS as UNC is in prime form having defeated the IcePack in a thrilling 6-5 shootout win last weekend. The team showed resilience, turning multiple multi-goal deficits with incredible effort from across the lineup and standout performances from Patrick O’Shaughnessy, Will Smith and Nic Gingras.

In contrast, the Bowling Green Falcons have struggled, entering this game still in search of their first win after suffering a 7-0 defeat to Ohio University. BGSU competes in the Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League (TSCHL) within ACHA Division II and has been part of the league since 2016. Head Coach Drew Harper will be looking to energize his squad after their difficult start.

Tonight’s matchup is the beginning of a triple-header as a part of the ‘Stephen Russell Memorial Tournament,’ held in honor of Stephen Russell, a former goaltender for NC State’s IcePack and a Political Science student. After his passing in 2009, the team retired his jersey as a tribute to his impact both on and off the ice. The tournament commemorates his legacy, celebrating his love for the sport and team spirit.

Over the course of three days, the Tar Heels will take on Bowling Green State University on Friday night  followed by games against Louisville on Saturday and New Hampshire on Sunday. These games will provide a great opportunity for UNC to test their momentum and compete against diverse competition as they progress throughout the season.

The Tar Heels’ offense has been firing on all cylinders, while the defensive pairings and solid goaltending duo of Lucas Brown and Ander Andreev have kept UNC competitive in every game. Under the strong leadership of Head Coach Steve Rice, the team will look to exploit the Falcons’ early-season struggles and deliver another standout performance for the Carolina faithful.
