Former Hurricane Steve Rice Named Next UNC Head Coach

Chapel Hill, NC – University of North Carolina Hockey is excited to announce Steve Rice as their next Head Coach. Rice, a former first round pick by the New York Rangers in 1989, joins the Tar Heels as they enter their fiftieth season. Rice will make his Tar Heel Hockey Head Coaching debut on August 31st against Wake Forest.

Rice, a native of Canada, Captained Canada in the 1991 World Junior Hockey Championships where he and his team won a gold medal. Rice played eight seasons in the National Hockey League with over three-hundred games to his credit. Rice played for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers and Carolina Hurricanes before calling a career in 1998.
