“I am so excited and honored to be named a honorary captain for Tar Heel Hockey as ice hockey runs through my families veins.” Smith said. “I spent a majority of my childhood at the SAP Center (San Jose, CA) watching the San Jose Sharks rise to the occasion and even make their way to a Stanley Cup Final.”

Smith is no stranger to the game of hockey, playing a variation of the game in the backyard.

“Being an honorary captain means so much to me as I grew up watching and adoring the sport of ice hockey, but my cousins also played it.” Smith said about her childhood. “Growing up, we would play with sticks in the backyard, have Sharkie (San Jose Sharks mascot) come to our birthday parties, and be able to hang out with the Sharks players families. My love for ice hockey runs just about as deep as my love for UNC.”

You can catch Skyler and the members of Tar Heel Hockey on August 31st as they welcome the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to the Orange County Sportsplex with a 5:45pm puck drop. Purchase tickets to the home opener before the sell out.
